FAQ

Are UUID and GUID the same thing?
Essentially, yes. GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) is Microsoft's name for UUID; the two share the same format and meaning — 128 bits, usually written as 32 hexadecimal digits in 8-4-4-4-12 groups separated by 4 hyphens.
Can generated UUIDs collide?
UUID v4 has 122 random bits, so collisions are theoretically possible but the probability is so low it is negligible in practice — which is why UUIDs are widely used as database primary keys, request IDs and session IDs.
Is UUID v4 randomly generated?
Yes. Almost all of a UUID v4 is random. This tool uses the browser's cryptographically secure random source (crypto.getRandomValues) rather than an ordinary pseudo-random generator, which makes the results suitable as unpredictable identifiers.
Is my data uploaded when generating UUIDs?
No. UUIDs are generated entirely in your browser and nothing is ever sent to a server.
