Statistics
· Words are split by whitespace (spaces / line breaks / tabs), which suits English; CJK text is counted separately under CJK characters. · Bytes are counted in UTF-8, where one CJK character takes about 3 bytes.

FAQ
Does the character count include spaces?
The tool reports both numbers, with and without spaces. When writing an article you usually look at the count without spaces; when calculating string length in code you usually need the count with spaces.
Why are bytes and characters different?
An English character usually takes 1 byte, a CJK character takes 3 bytes in UTF-8, and an emoji can take 4 bytes. So content with many CJK characters has a noticeably larger byte count than character count.
Is my text uploaded during counting?
No. All counting runs locally in real time in your browser and your text is never sent to a server.
